چکیده
Abstract Background Acute pericarditis causes acute inflammation of the pericardium. Although most cases are idiopathic with no identifiable cause, its etiology can be infectious, such as viral, bacterial, mycotic, and tuberculous infections, or non-infectious, including post-pericardiotomy, metastatic malignant tumor, connective tissue disease, uremia. However, there has been report caused by adenoviral infection in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). Herein, we a case pericardial effusion patient PD. Case presentation A 59-year-old man who had PD our department for 3 years bout enteritis. He was later admitted to emergency hospital because malaise loss consciousness due effusion. Testing after admission revealed elevated adenovirus antibody titers. Pericardial improved although changes his prescription were made. The hospitalized maintain hemodynamics prevent hypotension. Since insufficient volume ruled out equilibrium tests assessment, kept under observation, made regarding method dialysis. C-reactive protein level both gradually declined, patient’s weight remained steady. titer alone increased 1:64 at approximately 2 weeks hospitalization. final diagnosis rather than uremia dialysis-associated pericarditis. Conclusions We treated rare viral (adenoviral) In addition testing usual causes, uremic must always receiving origin, treatment comprehensive.

Purulent pericarditis with greenish pericardial effusion caused by Shewanella algae.
We report the first case of purulent pericarditis with greenish pericardial effusion caused by Shewanella algae in a patient with gastric and gallbladder cancer. This case expands the reported spectrum of infection caused by S. algae and raises the possibility that S. algae is a causative pathogen for purulent pericarditis.
متن کاملPleural Effusion in a Peritoneal Dialysis Patient
A 34-year-old female presented with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) treated by peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) complained of a dry cough. Chest X-ray and chest computed tomography (CT) scan revealed massive right hydrothorax. Because the glucose concentration of pleural fluid was markedly high compared with that of serum, we performed isotope and contrast peritoneography. We used CT for localizing it...
متن کاملTuberculous Pericarditis Causing Severe Pericardial Effusion: A Case Study
Aims Tuberculous pericarditis is present in only one to two percent of the tuberculosis cases, i.e. considered rare. The disease is responsible for 4% and 7% of acute pericarditis and cardiac tamponade cases, respectively. Moreover, these conditions are associated with hazardous side effects. Thus, timely and precise diagnosis of the disease could prevent such complications. Case report We rep...

To cite: Koratala A, Bhatti V. BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/bcr-2016216637 DESCRIPTION Massive pleural effusion is a rare complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD) which can progress quickly to cause acute respiratory distress. Delay in diagnosis may result in recurrent hospitalisations and expose patients to unnecessary medications and imaging witho...
متن کاملPleural effusion secondary to minoxidil in a peritoneal dialysis patient.
Sir, We report a case of a 48-year-old male with end-stage renal disease secondary to focal segmental glomerular sclerosis, who began continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (PD) in June 2002. Three months later, minoxidil 5mg/day was introduced because of uncontrolled hypertension. Oedema and weight gain appeared in spite of 3 l/day net ultrafiltration on PD. Left pleural effusion associated...
